Birth is a sacred and transformative experience. Historically, women learned about this time from each other and from Sisters on the path. So much has been lost in the last 100 or more years - there is SO much to re-discover, re-learn , re-claim and re-tell together!
In this Vermont weekend retreat,we will journey into what it means to be a birth worker and a birther - philosophically, emotionally and through stories, and sharing our knowledge with each other. The weekend explores the history and current life of midwives and their role in women's lives even after birth from the perspective of both the mom AND the midwife!
Using music, storytelling, astrology, pathways into birth work and at the end you will be exposed to many different ways to incorporate YOUR DREAMS into the growing and expanding fields of supporting women...your sisters...in their JOURNEY INTO BIRTH!
Over 5 days you will study the basics of natural childbirth. Through talks, demonstrations and group work we will cover normal prenatal care, prenatal complications, labor, birth and postpartum. Through the study of the phases of midwifery care, you will have the chance to reflect on what you will bring to clients from your own unique life experience.
You will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience: learning birth support for laboring women, rebozo techniques, benkung belly binding, blood pressure, veinipuncture, hand maneuvers for delivering a baby, placenta encapsulation, VBAC support, labor support, deep listening and communication and so much more.
You will also have the opportunity to ask all the questions you have had about midwifery and birth, the education and skills needed to become a midwife, childbirth educator, doula, lactation support person or a provider in your community of specialized birth provider. And we will deeply explore as a group, the integration of the birth-worker lifestyle into your own life circumstances.
In addition to all of this, your 5 day birth retreat includes sleeping accommodations, and there are a few options to choose from! The Main House is open with 2 bedrooms a sleeping loft and other options. In addition, an opportunity for GLAMPING in a large communal tent gives nature-lovers that choice for sleeping. And for those needing more privacy, camping out in the field is a wonderful and peaceful option! Think of it as one grand sleep-over! Bring your tent and camping gear, use your car, or a camper! There are 2 bathrooms, each with a shower as well as a washer, dryer and clothesline which you are free to use during your stay.
Your tuition also includes dinner on Tuesday night, all meals Wednesday through Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. The registration form will ask if you have specific dietary needs. Alcoholic beverages and specialty items will be available for you at your own cost.
We welcome babies in arms to attend the workshop with you. You and your baby will have full access to breastfeeding and cuddle as needed. Bringing someone who can help with childcare will allow you and the other participants to more fully enjoy the workshop. There will be someone on staff all week to help you with any errands or needs you may have while you are here.
Just as birth is a journey, becoming a birth-worker is a journey as well. I would be honored to be a part of YOUR journey. Register today, as space is limited to 15 attendees.
